Elite Family & Cosmetic Dentistry performs dental restorations for patients of all ages with a goal of restoring teeth in a way that is natural looking and durable.  We have found that many seniors are under the impression that they will lose their teeth, no matter what.  This is often not the case, and restorations are one of the reasons why.  If you are older and having trouble with your teeth, we encourage you to schedule a dental appointment so that we can examine your teeth and gums and then provide treatment. You may be surprised at the restorations that are available to you as a means of keeping your natural teeth longer.  Here are some of the examples of what we offer:

  • Dental crowns.  These are natural-looking caps that surround your teeth entirely and can be worn in order to keep your natural teeth intact.  It is completely normal for teeth to lose their enamel with age.  This is called erosion and can be sped up or slowed down based on your oral hygiene habits.  Still, most people will experience some level of erosion and sensitivity with age.  Simultaneously, teeth can become cracked, chipped, broken or damaged in some capacity.  In both situations, a dental crown can be placed over the tooth. Once bonded in place, it will provide a level of stability and protection that your tooth is currently missing.  When you bite down, you will be touching the crown and not the tooth underneath which will prevent further irritation and damage.  Many of our patients are using this solution to keep their natural teeth in place.
  • Dental veneers.  If you have some damage, like a chipped tooth, but your tooth is otherwise strong – a dental veneer is an ideal way to restore and save it.  Dental restorations come in many forms, and this is one of the more common.  Instead of surrounding your tooth, it simply lays on top of it and replaces the enamel on that side.  It has less of an impact on your tooth structure as a whole, looks entirely natural, and will allow you to eat and smile comfortably.
  • Dental implants.  If you do end up losing one, or a few, of your teeth, dental restorations take on a new form.  Elite Family & Cosmetic Dentistry uses dental implants as a way to permanently replace missing teeth and recommend them as our first pick to do so.  Implants are better than bridges or dentures because when a tooth is lost, we replace the root system.  This is done by implanting a metal post under the gums and securing it to the jawbone. The bone and metal will fuse together through a process called osseointegration and as they do, the jawbone will be strengthened.  This is especially important for our older patients that may be experiencing bone loss.  In this way, these dental restorations can help to preserve your appearance and facial structure, where dentures may not.

They type of dental restorations that you need will depend on the current condition of your mouth.  Elite Family & Cosmetic Dentistry can ensure that you remain in excellent health and that you keep your natural teeth as long as possible.  With that in mind, we encourage you to schedule a consultation to discuss any health challenges you may be currently facing.
